Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you teach at your residence or do you travel to the student?

A: I primarily tutor (and prefer to tutor) at my residence as I have an area designated and suited for teaching. I can, however, travel to the student under certain circumstances. This may incur an additional fee depending on the location and time. Please email or call for more information.

Q: Can you teach multiple students at the same time who are in different year groups?

A: I can but it is not recommended as it affects the flow of the lesson and is disruptive to students. E.g., answering a question for a Year 5 student while a Year 10 student is working nearby would disrupt the Year 10 student and vice-a-versa, as there is very little that a Year 10 student would gain from the answer to a Year 5 question.

Q: How are students selected to be part of a group session?

A: This is typically done based on an expression of interest and/or my recommendation. Some students tend to benefit more from a group session than they would from a private session and vice-a-versa. Essentially, I would communicate my recommendation to you based on how your child tracks with the lessons.

Q: Are you able to tutor for durations other than 1 hour?

A: Yes, the prices provided above are effectively the rates per hour, as such, I can tailor a lesson or lessons based on your preference. For example, a Year 3 student might find an hour-long private session to be too exhausting, whereas a student preparing for exams in Year 12 may need more than an hour, etc.

Q: What sets you apart from other tutoring centres?

A: With respect to private sessions (and to some extent, group sessions), I provide a tailored lesson and homework plan based on your child's needs. I do not have set lessons which I work from as I do not intend to act as a "second school" for your child, but rather a place where they can find help with their homework and a means to improve their understanding of mathematics.

About

My name is Charbel and I enjoy teaching mathematics, so much so that I left my job as an engineer to do so full-time. I have a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of New South Wales and completed the HSC in 2010, coming first in my class in Extension 2 Mathematics. I have been helping students in mathematics since I finished high school and derive deep fulfilment in doing so.
